Mythology, the Feminine and Transcendence

One of Lauryn Arnott's recurring interests has been to find the connections between mythology, the feminine and transcendence.   'Waking up from the Wrong Story' (first image above) reflects on the theme of Sleeping Beauty; a story about life, death and resurrection. The flowering of the hedge of roses and the awakening of the sleeping maiden suggest the earth in lifeless repose which, touched by spring, begins to live anew and blossom as young and beautiful as ever. It also suggests  the awakening of sleeping nature at the first glimmering of day. In this context there is no wrong or right time as the cycle of life is eternal. The following three drawings are inspired by Helen Cixous' essay ' .... laugh Medusa for you are beautiful'.
